Born in the former Soviet Union, D. Mitry began his artistic career with successful off-off Broadway plays in New York and participated in the esteemed Eugene O'Neill National Playwrights Conference in his early 20s. After a successful 17-year business career, he decided to pursue his true passion for filmmaking in 2015. From 2016 onwards, his short films gained recognition and acclaim at international film festivals, including the Oscar-nominated Cleveland International Film Festival, ShortShorts in Japan, and Dances With Films LA, among others. His work received numerous awards at prestigious festivals like the Julien Dubuque International Film Festival and the Arizona International Film Festival, and some of his shorts were even acquired by PBS, solidifying his reputation in the industry.
In February 2020, D. Mitry completed his first feature film, "My True Fairytale," which he dedicated to his late daughter. Taking on the roles of writer, director, and producer, he poured his emotions and creative vision into the project. The film was acquired for worldwide distribution by Gravitas Ventures and Myriad Pictures, expanding its reach. Nominated for various awards, "My True Fairytale" was released in theaters and on-demand platforms in April 2021, marking a significant milestone in its journey. The film had its world premiere at the Cinequest in March 2021, further increasing its recognition.
